Made Up Minds

Our Founders

Dr. Nathanial “Coach” Hearne

Dr. Nathanial Hearne’s passion is building up individuals through character development, leadership training, and finding their purpose. For more than 35 years, he has worked with people from all walks of life in various leadership roles and settings.

In the late 1980s, Dr. Hearne was an assistant football coach at Permian High School, which was the subject of the national bestselling book Friday Night Lights, which was then developed into an award-winning movie and television show. He was the first black coach to be hired in the football program.

Throughout his career as an educator, Dr. Hearne also served as principal, vice principal, and director of truancy and dropout prevention for school districts in Texas. He has been a pastor for several Methodist churches and served as an assistant executive director for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Today, through his own company Made Up Minds he operates with his wife, Callie, Dr. Hearne provides workshops, training, seminars, and speaking for the purpose of building leaders who have principles and character that are exemplary. His first-hand perspective from his time coaching young athletes is one of the bases for the character development and leadership training that he teaches.

“Great leaders know that leadership is not about the number of people they serve, but more about the character they display and the example they set as they seek to serve those around them.”

Service

Dr. Hearne is the founder of Euless Loaves and Fishes, a 501c3 non-profit organization that works with disadvantaged families to help set them up for future success. They work with schools, churches, judicial channels, and private service providers to offer training and programs for character development, truancy prevention, and leadership training. He has also served on the Board of Directors of Hospice United Way board of directors’ allocations committee and is currently serving in the Rotary Club as the new member recruiting coach.

Dr. Nate Hearne is truly one of the most gifted speakers I have ever heard. He is a storyteller and a compassionate man of God who offers truth and leads others to the light in this world of darkness. In each interaction, whether one-on-one or corporately, Dr. Nate is the real deal, a genuinely powerful "encourager" - he has forever blessed my life!

Dave Rawles, MSM

I have known Dr. Hearne, "Nate," for several years now, probably 10 or more. To be brief, a few words of description: Character-beyond reproach; Integrity-he sets the bar at the highest level; Motivator & encourager-the best; compassion-deep, almost unmeasurable. In short, Nate serves God 1st, others 2nd & then considers himself. One on one or in front of a crowd, Nate sets the standard.
